The Challenge

Bringing R&B Nostalgia to the Spotlight

Room 187 is a UK-based game show celebrating the golden era of R&B and Hip-Hop from 1990 to 2008. More than just an event, it’s a tribute to the music that shaped a generation. With a growing fanbase of over 50,000 on social media and successful shows in cities like Houston, Toronto, and across the UK, Room 187 has even hosted R&B legends like Jon B and Lemar.

As their presence skyrocketed, they needed a digital home, a website that captured the essence of Room 187. More than just a place for event info, it had to tell their story, attract more attendees, and open doors to partnerships with major brands. The challenge? Creating an online presence as vibrant and engaging as the event itself.

Room Zoom - a dynamic page transition that zooms into the hero image, creating a sense of excitement as if entering the room.

Curtain Call – a smooth wipe transition that clears the current view to reveal new content, creating a seamless sense of change and progression.

Setting the Stage with Motion

The motion principles Room Zoom and Curtain Call were designed to create a sense of excitement and seamless progression, giving the digital experience a show-like energy. Room Zoom draws users into the hero with anticipation, while Curtain Call transitions between content in a smooth, theatrical way. By establishing these emotional cues early, the animations set the tone for the rest of the site, ensuring every interaction feels intentional, engaging, and reflective of the Room 187 brand. These principles provide a foundation for creating a cohesive and immersive user experience.
